On October 1, 2025, the most you can claim in Ontario Small Claims Court rose from $35,000 to $50,000, not counting costs and interest. The change was made by regulation under the Courts of Justice Act (O. Reg. 626/00).
What it means
- Disputes worth up to $50,000 can now be heard in Small Claims Court, which is simpler and usually less costly than the Superior Court of Justice.
- Claims for more than $50,000 still belong in the Superior Court of Justice, unless the claimant gives up the amount above the limit.
- If you started a claim before the change, ask whether it can be amended to claim more.
Licensed paralegals are authorized to represent clients in Small Claims Court.
