As of November 14, 2025, Ontario municipalities can no longer issue Provincial Offences Act tickets or administrative penalty orders for speeding caught by automated speed enforcement cameras. The change was made through the Building a More Competitive Economy Act, 2025.
What replaced the cameras
- The province created a $210 million Road Safety Initiatives Fund to help municipalities add speed bumps, roundabouts, raised crosswalks, better signage and more police enforcement.
- Municipalities that had speed cameras near schools must install new, larger signs telling drivers to slow down.
What has not changed
Police officers still issue speeding tickets, and the fines, demerit points and insurance consequences of a conviction still apply. If you received a camera ticket for a date before November 14, 2025, do not assume it has been cancelled. Read the notice and get advice before the deadline on it passes.
